Former Prince Hall of Shame Fame

(Or, A Primer of Orlando Politics)

Colin LancingColin Lancing

After leaving the Invictus for the Circle, Lancing became the founding Prince of what would eventually become the Domain of Orlando. A frontier Prince, he stepped down after the arrival of Disney World, claiming the city had become too commercial and tourist-y for his tastes. He remained in Orlando, maintaining his plantation, advising the city, and antagonizing his long-time nemesis, Evengii. Lancing was destroyed in 2006 by a former ally, Douglas Lawson.

Father Murphy Father Murphy

Father Murphy's reign was brief, and remarkable only in the fact that it was essentially benign. Although backed by several of the older and stronger Kindred of the city, Murphy did not have the hard-hearted strength of will necessary to hold Orlando's praxis, and he seems to have understood this. He stepped down of his own accord, explaining that his talents were better suited to attending to the city's spiritual needs rather than her political ones. Father Murphy is now Archbishop Murphy, and while he currently resides in Gainesville, many in Orlando, both within his covenant and without, still look to him with respect.

Aleksandyr Evengii Alder Aleksandyr Evengii

Alder Evengii is seen by many as the quintessential Prince of Orlando; indeed, there are those who question whether he ever actually stepped down. An Old World monarch, the Russian Prince ruled the city with a peculiar blend of iron-fisted discipline and deft back-room deals, which for better or worse seemed to work - for a while. After a series of staged murders rumored to have been done at his command, Evengii was ousted - a coup that began peaceful, but (through, it is rumored, the interference of Colin Lancing) ended bloody. Through a process of arcane negotiations, Evengii came through smelling like a rose, and has been the Prince's Harpy (and, some whisper, secret ruler) of Orlando ever since.

Lord Haus Lord Mikael Haus

Lord Haus began his reign under the shadow of having conspired with the Carthian Movement to remove a fellow Invictus from praxis; he compounded this by quickly alienating his new allies through his perceived unwillingness to ratify a constitution-like document outlining laws and guaranteeing rights - which had, they claimed, been part of the deal from the beginning. Words like "tyrant" quickly began to circulate, and after (on one memorable occasion) an offender was whipped on the floor of Elysium, the phrase "reign of terror" became less of a joke. Haus was deposed as democratically as he was appointed, and by many of the same people. Believing Evengii to have been behind this move, he left the Invictus soon after, and joined the Circle of the Crone instead. Most recently he has officially left Orlando for the fledgling domain to the north, in Seminole County. (OOC: As the player does not want his picture on the site, he has been replaced with a smiley. Also, I'm choosing to believe he's holding a plate of cookies.)

Sasmita Sasmita

The Acolyte Sasmita was "elected" by the council of regents as a counter to Lord Haus; she secured her praxis, not through the trial-by-combat he offered, but rather by a sort of informal open debate. Essentially well-meaning though not politically deft, her reign was marked by good intentions, indecision, and a list as long as your arm of people rumored to be "puppeting" her. She stepped down as suddenly as she stepped up, handing power to her Seneschal with very little in the way of explanation. She remains in Orlando, acting as a sort of quasi-social, quasi-political busybody whose words, nevertheless, are often listened to.

Lemmy! Lemmy

Lemmy was a "Prince" of Orlando only by the very broadest of definitions. During a Mardi Gras/April Fool's/Carneval/Topsy-Turvy celebration, Lemmy "took" praxis and became the Prince of Fools for the night. His memorable acts include disbanding the covenants and instead dividing the city into two categories: "fops" and "dandies." Near the stroke of midnight, Lemmy stepped down and handed the city back to then-Prince Sasmita - with, it must be noted, a good deal of relief, and muttered resolutions to never do that again for more than a night.

Mojo Snakekiller Mojo Snakekiller

Mojo started his reign well, his dynamic brand of leadership and show of strength a welcome change to Sasmita's softer style. The honeymoon ended quickly, unfortunately, as "dynamic" shifted to "overbearing" and "strength" became "inflexibility." Whispers of revolution, even among his former supporters, grew quickly (fanned, it was later learned, by his treacherous Seneschal, Lord Jain), only to be exacerbated after Snakekiller made a number of questionable decisions that compounded one another and alienated most of the city. The plot to replace him was already well underway when he made what would otherwise have been the fatal mistake of publically acting against Alder Evengii; as it was, it was merely icing on the cake. In an unprecedented (but, in retrospect, probably wise) move, Mojo ceded praxis via email and declined to attend the next gathering. His whereabouts are currently unknown.

Sanjeev Jain Viscount Sanjeev Jain

Lord Jain has the dubious honor of holding Orlando's praxis for the shortest length of time (and that includes Lemmy); also of being Orlando's most infamous Prince.

Sanjeev Jain came to Orlando a disfigured street bum - no friends, no covenant, no home. With the help of the Invictus (especially Alder Evengii), and through his own subtle machinations, he rose surprisingly quickly. It culminated the night he stood before the city - rich, respected, his maimed face and raw, rasping voice forever healed, and accepted praxis. And that night, at the height of his power, he ordered an attack on and then murdered his enemy Basil Valentine, handed praxis to the bewildered Acolyte Rhys Leif, and vanished into the night. He is still at large.
